Star Citizen/Squadron 42
« on: November 20, 2013, 12:49AM »
For those of you who are like me and have been looking for a good PvE based space sim, I recently found one called Star Citizen that is still in development and is being crowd-funded:

About the Game/Trailer: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/about-the-game

The funding started in Sept. 2012 and today has just past the $28,000,000 mark, yes $28 million! This is pretty much the space sim of all space sims. It's being developed by Chris Roberts, the guy who made the Wing Commander series, and other similar games. I loved playing Eve Online, but I didn't like how it's hardcore PvP based. X-Rebirth was one game I thought would be what I wanted, but judging from the reviews and Steam forums, it's a huge disappointment.

So I ended up discovering Star Citizen and so far it looks like it's going to have everything I wanted in a space sim. Player run economy (mostly), fully customizable ships, single and multi-player (MMO), everyone plays on the same server, skill based space combat where you manually do the aiming, exploration, huge focus on allowing player choice, and so much more. There is also no subscription fee. You just pay for the game client once.

Here is their YouTube channel if you want to watch the videos:

The ship commercials are so awesome.

I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and hope someday I'll be able to create 3D models of spaceships like that.

Pledged when they were around 9M...looks like it's gonna be awesome :)  Their website really sucks on my phone though.

Wish I knew about the game when it was up on Kickstarter. Missed out on a lot of stuff that is only available to original/veteran backers.

I found a pretty good fleet to join: https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/16594/imperium-fleet-recruitment/p1

They are currently over 1,000 pilots and are planning on taking over an area in lawless space.

This ship is $1,250 and is available today in limited quantities in several batches:

They ended up selling as fast as BlizzCon tickets... $1,250 is like an 8 year WoW subscription for one person if they pay in 180 day intervals.

I got the 325a (combat version of 300i) package for $80 back when LTI was still available.  They are well over $30M in funding now so it better be a badass game lol.

I was thinking of getting the 325A in addition to what I have now (Aurora LX). But then after yesterday's live stream, I'm not sure if I should get the Avenger instead of the 325A. Their packages are only $5 apart, and I like being able to walk around the cargo bay, but the Avenger is less maneuverable and made mostly for bounty hunting, which I don't plan to do. Was also thinking about getting a Constellation, but that's a huge jump in price.

I'm actually planning on doing more trade and industry type stuff like mining, salvaging, refining, etc, than combat. So when the new mining ship comes out, I may get that instead, depending on the price.
